Sometimes we ask other people to do the funniest things. Our thought patterns, while always clear to ourselves, do not always compute with others. We usually do this when we have really been thinking a lot about something, or it is really bugging us. Which is why it can be so damn funny.
For example…..
My wife has beautiful roses out front. One of these roses was being eaten by a bug, likely an aphid. She hunted this aphid with the stealth of a lion chasing a fat, wounded wildebeest. She was so determined to get this little bastard that she was not prepared to give up. She would settle for nothing less than the termination of this rose eating little bastard.
So, she is getting ready to go out for the day and says to me…”Can you keep an eye on the rose today and try to find the bug that is eating it?”
Huh? So, I am supposed to “keep an eye” on a rose, in case I see a bug on it? Ok, I gotta tell you…I am here to please, but I do find this request somewhat bizarre. Oh well, “Happy wife..happy life.”
The funny thing is, she was so sincere and serious that she failed to see the humour in the request. (I started to laugh when she asked me to do this, but quickly stopped when I saw she was quite serious.)
You gotta admit, it is a little funny. C’mon…..
Now, if I could just figure out if she was being serious when she asked me to clean up the dog poo in the backyard.
Last night, I decided to take the kids for chinese buffet. We have a great little joint in town, my wife was out and I didn't feel like cooking.
So, I say to the kids. "Are you hungry?" Of course they reply yes, because that always means going out for supper. So, I say to them..."OK, but I am only taking you if you are hungry, so I don't waste money...but don't eat too much."
My son and daughter looked at eachother with screwed up faces...you could see it in their expression. "Huh, what the hell does that mean dad?"
Well, I rationalize, I don't want you to over-eat, but I want to get my moneys worth. Get it?
They don't...I do. ( I think...)
But, when we get home they are going to ask me something wacky....so it all evens out.
