(lygenztia *114) Facebook....the silent killer

Today I did something that I never thought I would do. I "deactivated" my Facebook account.

Facebook isn't evil. It's fun, it's a great way to stay in touch. It's a great way to vent.

It's also damn addicting. I got really active on Facebook about 6 months ago. Since that time, I spend way too much time there. I have only read one book in the last 6 months....and I love to read. No time to read, gotta look at my "friends" pictures and see their status!

One of the other more salient points are the Facebook "friends". At first you get all excited and add your co-workers. God bless every one of them. I work with some of the greatest people in the free world. But, there needs to be some boundaries. When they see photos of me loaded in a bar kissing a plant....I think they wonder.

Then there are the people that you add to your account that you vaguely know. They are your Facebook "friend", yet you see them at the grocery store and you do not even say "hello" to eachother. Weird....

It can be tiring and stressful. Having a Facebook account means having to "keep up" with the fun stuff that all of your other "friends" are doing. So, when your "friend" writes..."we're going to Bahamas" in their status, you can hardly come back with.."tonite, we are having a fondue with a guy we picked up hitch-hiking."

But don't deactivate your Facebook account in temerity. If you have the restraint to keep it all in perspective stay....and have fun.

It's fun...but it also can be a complete exposure of your soul. For the entire world to see. We all have skeletons in the closet.

But I think I want the skeletons to catch me reading a book.
