(lygenztia *146) EXTRA, EXTRA, read all about it!

Just what are the qualifications of reporters nowadays? Are they simply trying to get a print worthy response, or are some of them just asking stupid questions because they are…stupid?

Case in point, recent press conference about a serious crime in Ontario. Some of the questions posed to Police were so ridiculous, so utterly idiotic that you had to wonder if the “reporter” was on drugs, or just going for a sound bite.

For example:
Reporter-“Officer Smith, can you tell us who committed this horrific crime?”
Well of course they can Einstein. The reason the Police are asking the public for help, is because they don’t want the criminal to get caught. (That makes as much sense as the question)

Reporter-“Officer Smith, can you tell us why you haven’t caught them yet?”
Oh well, actually, they have caught them. They are just keeping it a secret so they can get on TV.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for the media and most of the questions are compelling, logical and thought out. But some, well you gotta wonder…”what in the hell were they thinking when they asked that question?”

The media should never be censored and should be free to be our fourth and fifth estate. But they should also be able to hire competent thinkers that can probe issues. Not grandstanding fools, trying to upstage the issue.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane would never have stood for such shenanigans and even they were cartoons.

Surely the Canadian public shouldn’t either.
