(lygenztia *265) I love/hate/abhor/adore technology

So, I get to the airport at about 3AM today, because with Toronto traffic you have to leave the day before to get to Pearson “2 hours early”. (of course that’s for security and not the airline convenience, right?) Anyway, that’s another story. This one’s all about the technology we live with. (and for)

My Tech saga…..flying out of town:

1st-Boarding pass won’t print at the airport: Clerk stares at me blankly, because you know, I know how to fix those boarding pass printers. On comes the Supervisor……
2nd-The carry-on baggage x-ray at “security” doesn’t work: so, manual search it is.
3rd-Land and get my rental: after driving away I discover the GPS doesn’t work, so back that goes.
4th-Check into my hotel: you got it, room key didn’t work. Back to the desk….….oopsie, new card.
5th-In my room, WiFi doesn’t work with my devices: BUT, the front desk says it does work, so I guess that problem is solved, even though my devices (still) do not work.
6th-Get a call from my son at school: his ABM card does not work to buy his books. Oh goodie! This should only be thirty calls (all on hold, first) to six different “Customer Service” Centres.

Yep, technology is awesome, when it works.

(Lygenztia *264) All is well in the world

It really is amazing how something beautiful can come from evil. Case in point, some idiot writes a hateful anonymous letter to a Grandmother about her Autistic Grandson. No need for details on the content; it's not worth repeating. Let's just say the words were evil and hateful.

But, hold the phone, because the outcome is awesome. The community rallied around the family, held rallies at their home, organized community bike rides, held community bbq's and ultimately, increased awareness of autism in the community.

It's just a beauty outcome and all that rallied should be proud! Good for you Newcastle.

(Lygenztia *263) Do not "pass go" or pass gas, please oh pretty please!

Yes, well had to go the Doctor to get looked at for a minor issue, that was going to require a major needle. Oh, the joy.

But, you see, the issue wasn't really the needle...it was the previous evenings hot wings. (let's just say....super hot) So, mix that little ingredient with some needle anxiety and you get "gas". Perfect, just perfect.

I wait my turn, stealthily running to the men's room to deposit an odour that would make weapons grade mustard gas blush. Then it happens....they call me.

Please God, I pray, let me make it through this without skunk spraying my doctor and I'll do pious deeds for the rest of my life.

Well, as it turns out, God was on a coffee break when I prayed because I nearly suffocated my Doctor and his intern. On the upside, my Doctor got to tease his intern, who left the room. On the downside, I didn't get any pre-needle topical anesthetic. Doc said it wasn't necessary. Um....ya, I'll give you that one Doc. Guess you owed me one.

(lygenztia *263) YA! NICE!

Ever get a perfect pour with your Raisin Bran?

Well, if you have you know the feeling and you know it's gonna be an awesome day. Perfect pours are not common and if you're a Raisin Bran afficiando like I am, you know what I mean.

It's luck of the draw really, perfect mix of bran and raisins. Just a pure old fluke.

Yep, gonna be an awesome day. Now, gotta go get me some lottery tickets and hope my luck holds out.

(lygenztia *262) "Oh me? My first (or last) name begins with duh"

Why do men wear rings with an initial on the ring?

Do they forget their name? Do they want the whole world to know their first (or last??) name ends in "S" or "R"? Do you actually need to wear two rings, one with your first initial on one hand and one with your last initial on the other? It's not like you're someone of royalty wearing a signet ring like those from Game of Thrones , for crying out loud.

I guess the initial could (maybe) signify a letter; for instance The "S" could mean silly, sexy, saucy or suave. But, I don't think so.

Like, what the heck man...it looks tacky and weird. Take my advice, instead get a ring with an eagle, or an opal...or maybe a shiny red ruby..anything but your initial, Rico.

(lygenztia *261) KCCO

The Chive has really taken on a new meaning; it’s become the new media and voice of social discourse. Remember when you would meet friends after work and discuss current events, or sports? Remember when you would get to work and talk about the news? Not anymore.

Now when the discussion starts, inevitably it’s “did you see The Chive this morning?” (or last night)

Chivers are cool, they are the people that frequent the website and follow its precepts. The website is more or less a collection of funny, inspiring pictures and videos, sprinkled with some beautiful women. (no nudity) The Chive inspires its followers to “pay it forward” when you see another Chiver, by saying hello, buying them a beer, or doing something nice for them. It’s an awesome concept. I wish more social phenomenon’s took on a similar way of thinking and acting.

It’s also a great way to meet people and if you don’t believe me, check out the site. Then, buy a Keep Calm and Chive On t-shirt or hat. You will be amazed.
