(lygenztia #283) Can I borrow a few arm-rests?

Air travel regulators are currently discussing whether passenger seats sizes should be standardized on aircraft. Actually, not a bad idea. But please, remember to include leg room in the discussions.

From my perspective, there is a greater concern relating to passenger comfort. And that concern is well...other passengers. Specifically, heavy or larger passengers. In my journeys and air travels I have increasingly encountered ummmmm..."larger" persons travelling to warmer climes in the winter months. And you know what, God bless 'em. I have no issue with that, nor should anyone else.

That said, we all all know that when we are seated on the plane and boarding is taking place we all do the same thing when we see the larger person coming down the aisle. We say to ourselves "please God, not me, please God not me, please God, don't sit beside me" and we repeat this until they (hopefully) pass us by in the aisle. Now, if they do happen to sit beside us we smile politely, make some room, surrender the arm rest and pretend to not notice that their skin folds are now laying on our arm and rib cage.

I'm not just an "ideas guy" so I have a solution.

After a certain weight (to be determined by ergonomic experts) larger persons should be required to buy two seats. I know, I know...it's not their fault. Well, it's not my fault either and other passengers should not have to be subjected to unwanted flesh spill over. This is a fair, just solution.

Maybe if Donald Trump becomes President, he will issue an Executive Order ordaining there be a wall between passengers. But, thankfully, we are not there yet.
