Lygenztia *469 (How dry I am....How dry I am....) Wednesday May 6, 2020 (Ontario/up)

Worldwide stats provided by worldometers put the global COVID-19 number of reported cases today at 3,744,765 (84,380 new). (Deaths: 258,884 and Recovered: 1,249,238) I emphasize reported because there is a wide variance in testing and manner of reporting from country to country and place to place. I'm guessing the world will hit 4 million cases, by weeks end.

As of 6:31 a.m. ET on Wednesday May 6, 2020:
From Global News, Canada reported 62,035 confirmed cases of COVID-19. (I no longer use the CBC link, more on that in national news)

The official Province of Ontario website is reporting 18,310 total confirmed cases (387 new) and 1,361 deaths. (61 new) Currently, 1,043 people are in hospital with 223 in ICU.

Quebec continues to have the highest reported cases in the country with 33,417 (794 new).

The Region of Durham reported 1086 confirmed cases of COVID-19. (11 new) The site also reports 14 current outbreaks (1 new) at Hospitals, LTCF's and Retirement Homes with 6 outbreaks now having been resolved. Currently, there are 68 (3 new) cases in Clarington.

In international news,
From the "Ummm...I don't know" file, three Russian doctors fall from hospital windows, raising questions amid coronavirus pandemic. One of them, Alexander Kosyakin posted a video online saying that Shulepov (another health care provider) had been forced to continue working after testing positive for coronavirus. Kosyakin had also previously criticized hospital administration for protective gear shortages on his social media and was questioned by the police for allegedly spreading fake news. Yes, of course. They "fell."

Rolling shortages of food are being reported in the U.S. and it can be expected to happen in Canada, too. This is not due to supply shortage, it is due to processing plant closures due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

In national news,
I will no longer link, read, or review CBC stories. Big deal, nobody reads this. But it makes me feel better. I have always been skeptical of the far left CBC and their love affair with Justin. (He can do no wrong in their eyes) Justin has bought them off with his "media grants" anyway. The CBC is so far left it is sickening and if you disagree with their lofty ideals; you are instantly branded a racist. Their "We are very smart and you are not" corporate ideals are offensive. I say, shut them down and distribute their funding to private media.

One only needs to read this article from the Epoch Times to see how they were mis-represented by the CBC as "racist." The Epoch Times opposes the chinese government and NOT chinese people. The Epoch Times was actually started by chinese dissidents that were unhappy with the government.

The CBC recently aired multiple segments on its different platforms, including radio, television, and online, on a special edition about the pandemic produced and distributed by The Epoch Times. The CBC’s promotion of the characterization of the special edition as being racist and xenophobic, its one-sided coverage, and its claims that the special edition advances a conspiracy theory, were heavily criticized by Epoch Times Canada publisher Cindy Gu.

I strongly urge you to read the Epoch Times article and then consider the story when you read/hear any CBC story. It is sickening. Political correctness run amok and smearing of the truth.

From the "Big Brother is gonna get you" file, fines issued for breaking pandemic measures top $5.8M, and questions are raised over 'snitch lines'. “Policing the Pandemic” has been mapping where individuals have received tickets for alleged COVID-19 related infractions across Canada.

In Ontario,
Ontario will temporarily lower alcohol minimum prices and expands access to ciders. Now hang on, before you break out that credit card; this applies to take out from restaurants, only. So, if you order take out alcohol (should) be cheaper.

From the "Be nice and don't offend" file, it’s unlikely ‘Murder hornets’ will be found in Ontario this year, says an Ontario Tech entomologist. By the way, they are actually called an "ASIAN GIANT HORNET", let me repeat that.."ASIAN GIANT HORNET". That is NOT racist, that is what they are called and they were called that before COVID-19 times. So, am I still allowed to call a Canada Goose a "Canada Goose", or is that racist? Can someone call the CBC and get some guidance on what they will allow? Wonder how long it will be before we can no longer call an "Asian Carp", an "Asian Carp"? http://www.invadingspecies.com/asian-carps/

FACT: "Asian carps were brought from Asia to North America in the 1960s and 70s. Since then they have migrated north through U.S. waterways towards the Great lakes. Preventing Asian carps from spreading into the Great Lakes is the best way to prevent harm to Ontario’s native fish species."

Locally,
CUPE is holding a protest today demanding the province does more to protect health care workers.

Durham craft breweries are offering delivery to your door. Patios may be closed, but backyards and balconies are the perfect place for a local brew

An excellent article from National Geographic "What is the coronavirus?" You will need to create an account, but well worth it.
