Lygenztia *499 (Cheaters never prosper..unless its CERB!) Friday June 5, 2020
Worldwide stats provided by worldometers put the global COVID-19 number of reported cases today at 6,723,644. (131,818 new+ and significantly up) (Deaths: 393,552 and Recovered: 3,266,767) I emphasize reported because there is a wide variance in testing and manner of reporting from country to country and place to place.
As of 6:26 a.m. ET on Friday June 5, 2020:

Fact check
No, Italy hasn’t recounted its coronavirus data and found that most died from other diseases.
Claim
96.3% of the Italy’s Covid-19 deaths were actually caused by other diseases.
Conclusion
This is incorrect. Official data shows that 96.3% of Covid-19 patients had other health conditions when they died.
In national news,
More than 200,000 Canadians are known to have double dipped on CERB.
Ottawa says a special emergency payment for seniors on Old Age Security (OAS) or the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will be sent out in early July. Those receiving OAS will get $300 and those who get GIS will get an additional $200. He say the special payment will go out the week of July 6. Seniors who already receive benefits don’t have to apply for the special payment, which will arrive either by cheque or direct deposit. So, the people that cheated, or quit their job went to the front of the line and got lots of cash, while our most vulnerable will wait about 4 months for assistance.
Justin Trudeau says the latest modelling from federal data shows that COVID-19 is in decline all across Canada with some communities showing few to no new cases of the virus. However, justin says the fight must continue and while the coronavirus is “slowing and, in some places, even stopping,” other places have large numbers of new cases. He says that, since the country is not out of the woods yet, physical distancing measures and wearing masks in public is very important. (Unless of course, you plan to go out into mass protests, which justin and Dr. Tam encourage.)
In Ontario,
Hundreds march in anti-racism rally downtown as some Toronto businesses board up windows ahead of weekend protests.
Hundreds of protesters are marching downtown as part of the first in a series of anti-racism demonstrations planned for the city this weekend. The rally, dubbed ‘The March for Change’ began at Bloor and Yonge streets at around noon and is now headed down Yonge Street. Organizers say that participants will head westbound on Front Street before heading north on University Avenue and gathering at Nathan Phillips Square.
The City of Toronto is eyeing temporary patios as a way to help support restaurants and bars, while allowing people to enjoy the outdoors with physical distance. Once approved, the CaféTO program will allow for more outdoor dining areas across the city this summer. City staff will identify appropriate spaces in the public right-of-way and look for ways to expedite the current application and permit process to set up a patio on the sidewalk or in parklets. Restaurant and bar owners who are registered for the program will get a set of guidelines for the installation of a temporary sidewalk café or curb lane café.
Local/sportsdesk happenings,
