As a parent, your most important attribute is unconditional love for your child. But...........

That does not translate into unconditional belief of everything your little cherub tells you. Parents that do this are awful, disillusioned human beings that raise messed up kids.

I have news for you, folks. If the teacher/crossing guard/coach/librarian/referee/mall security guard/store manager/babysitter/etc. says your kid did something; then they did it. Adults don't have the time (or inclination) to make up stories about your little angel for their own entertainment.

"Oh my kid would never lie to me..." is the common refrain of the new age parents nowadays. Ya, really? Well, that's bullshit. From time immemorial kids have lied to get out of trouble and to get attention. Even George Washington's legend of confessing to chopping down the cherry tree has been de-bunked.

A person that places their labours or troubles on another out of laziness, is a person to be avoided. Even if you think you can not do it, first try. Then if you don't succeed after trying, ask for help.

My charts do not follow the paths of others. I'd rather be the one that makes the map, than be the one that reads the map.

On this day in history, in 1796 the early smallpox vaccine is tested. (Luckily, vaccine hesitancy wasn't a thing, back then.) Edward Jenner, an English country doctor from Gloucestershire, administers the world’s first vaccination as a preventive treatment for smallpox, a disease that had killed millions of people over the centuries. While still a medical student, Jenner noticed that milkmaids who had contracted a disease called cowpox, which caused blistering on cow’s udders, did not catch smallpox. Unlike smallpox, which caused severe skin eruptions and dangerous fevers in humans, cowpox led to few ill symptoms in these women.

On this date in 1849, a black rain fell in Ireland upon an area of 400 square miles. It was the color of ink and "of a fetid odor & disagreeable taste," according to the Annals of Scientific Discovery. On May 14, 1881, Harper's Weekly featured a cartoon bemoaning the high price of gas.
